I immigrated to Canada in 1997 with my two children. I was born in Iran, eventually immigrating to Germany in 1980 and with the support of friends was able to apply to come to Canada.
I knew immediately Canada would be my home. I fell in love with the country and the kindness and generosity of the Canadian people. I was not going to take my new country for granted.
If I was to successfully transition and eventually become a Canadian citizen, I had obligations
and responsibilities... I must be accountable. I treasured this opportunity and the possibilities.
My first mission was to provide my children with the positive future that Canada offered us. With both a young son and daughter, I needed to instill in them an understanding of the gift that our family had been blessed with. I needed to be pro-active and insure my children understood the power of freedom. Thus, we have strived to engage with our new Canadian neighbors.
My first challenge was to learn English fluently. If I was to succeed, I needed to learn the language quickly. I chose to volunteer and get involved in my community, In addition I went to school.
I learned that volunteerism and going to school were both satisfying and amazing networking tools.
With the encouragement and support of my new Canadian friends, I enrolled in University. I eventually earned my BA in Business management from Capilano University in North Vancouver BC. Career-wise, I am now a real estate agent in Vancouver which is both, a challenge and a fulfilling job for me. Co-ordinating Work and volunteer hours is paramount.
I am proud to report my son is a recent university graduate with a good job, and my daughter is currently in university.
My special passion is providing quality time for seniors. Today, after many hours and years of volunteer service to numerous amazing organizations on the North Shore, I continue to do the good work in my community.
I am honored to participate in the good work that Dr. Gerri Schwartz and Dr. Des Berghofer facilitate at The Visioneers. I look forward to meeting new like-minded people and working together as a team on projects of mutual interest. This helps us to achieve more by our common endeavors than we achieve alone.
