Christopher is a classical actor who has transformed a career of acting on stage to be the founder and Artistic Director of one of the most successful and beloved Shakespeare festivals in Canada. He came to Vancouver from England in 1975 and in 1990 founded Bard on the Beach. More than 30 years later nearly 2 million visitors have come through the Bard’s iconic red-and-white striped tents in Vanier Park near the beach with Vancouver’s majestic North Shore mountains as backdrop. The Bard productions are universally loved for the quality of their acting and creative direction to make Shakespearean drama accessible and entertaining to a modern audience of all ages. Beyond the sold-out performances, however, one of Christopher's proudest accomplishments is the educational outreach of Bard. Thousands of students benefit tremendously from the expert tutelage of Bard’s actors, directors and instructors. As a contributor to the enrichment of the community, Bard on the Beach under the direction and inspiration of Christopher Gaze ranks in the highest levels of artistic achievement.
